Poreč – the most orderly city on the Adriatic

The Plavi Cvijet (Blue Flower) Prize is awarded by the Croatian Tourist Board to the most beautifully organised tourist municipalities and cities on the Adriatic coast.  This year's winner in the category of cities with ten thousand or more inhabitants is Poreč.

The Plavi Cvijet campaign was devised with the goal of improving the general level of the quality of living space, preserving and improving tourism space and protecting the environment.  In the final phase of the campaign Poreč went directly to the top and was awarded the Plavi Cvijet with a gold symbol alongside second and third place winners Opatija and Dubrovnik, which were awarded the Plavi Cvijet with silver and bronze symbols respectively.

The Croatian National Tourist Board, local tourist boards along the Croatian coast and their media sponsors are at the helm of this annual campaign which grades the order, beauty and cleanliness of tourist cities as a whole as well as individual elements of what that destination offers tourists, all part of the Volim Hrvatsku (I love Croatia) project.  The Plavi Cvijet award is given in numerous categories.  As such, the award for the most orderly city in coastal Croatia for cities with up to three thousand inhabitants was awarded to Cavtat, and the award for cities with three to ten thousand inhabitants was given to Rab.

In order to be awarded the title of most orderly it is necessary to achieve excellence in all the places where our dear guests assess our city daily.  This includes the entrance into the tourist city as a place to welcome every guest, the town centre and facilities and the appearance, cleanliness and order as well as facilities in public buildings.  Flowers and horticultural design surely leave the most 'artistic' impression, but the entire picture includes excellent traffic, tourist and other signage.

Guests begin to form their impressions as soon as they arrive, so the award puts great emphasis on the orderliness of bus and train stations, airports and ferry piers, followed by hospitality facilities – terraces, public beaches and tourist information centres where tourists can get information on everything that is necessary for a carefree holiday.

The official Plavi Cvijet 2010 awards ceremony will take place during the Days of Croatian Tourism from 20 to 22 October in Rovinj.
