56th European Karate and Para-karate Championships

19.05.2021 - 23.05.2021

Place: POREč-PARENZO (Žatika Sports Hall )
Organiser: Croatian Karate Union
Event type: Sports & Recreation

The town of Poreč will be hosting the European Senior Karate and Para-karate Championships from 19 to 23 May 2021. The organisation has been entrusted to the Croatian Karate Union and the European Karate Federation, and will be sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Croatia.

This year's senior karate and para-karate championships will see contestants from 52 countries, 1,200 accredited persons and five days of top-level competition in as many as twelve individual, four team and six para-karate categories.

The Croatian Karate Union is greatly honoured that Croatia has been selected among 16 candidates to host this year's championships. Although they have so far taken place in big European cities such as Paris and Baku, the Croatian town of Poreč has all it takes to turn this competition into a great event: the infrastructure, an impressive experience in hosting various European and world sports events, and last but not least – it is a true Mediterranean gem.

It should be noted that the 56th European Senior Karate Championships are also the last qualification tournament ahead of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, where karate will make its debut. Therefore, in addition to promoting the Croatian Karate Union, the karate as a sport, and the Republic of Croatia, this history-making event will be an opportunity for the local senior karatekas to shine on their home ground and earn themselves a ticket for the Olympic Games.

The Executive Committee of the European Karate Federation has also entrusted Croatia with the organisation of the EKF Election Congress on 18 May 2021, a day before the very competition, at which officials will be elected for the 2021-2025 term.
