The Poreč School of the Arts, in cooperation with the friendly Jan Vlašimsky Music School from Virovitica, and with the support of the Ministry of Science, Education and Youth, the City of Poreč-Parenzo, and the Tourist Board of the City of Poreč, is once again organizing the traditional “VIPO” project (Virovitica – Poreč) this year.
“VIPO” will take place in Poreč from May 27th to 30th, 2025, through full-day workshops and musical gatherings, with the highlight of the project being a concert at Liberty Square on Thursday, May 29th, 2025, at 7:00 PM.
The concert “Accordion Orchestra and Choir in My City” – part of the “VIPO” project will be held on Thursday, May 29th, 2025, at 7:00 PM at Liberty Square, featuring choirs and orchestras from Poreč and Virovitica, along with guests from GU Zagreb, united in the “VIPO” project.
Thus, choirs and accordion orchestras participating in the “VIPO” project will perform at Poreč’s Liberty Square.
The VIPO Orchestra is made up of young accordionists from elementary and secondary music schools in Virovitica, Zagreb, and Poreč, namely: the Poreč School of the Arts, Elly Bašić Music Institute in Zagreb, and the Jan Vlašimsky Music School in Virovitica. The conductors are Beatrica Šušak and Anamarija Lovrečić.
The “VIPO” project reflects the collaboration between students and teachers from friendly music schools, who will, through organized workshops, encourage social interaction and collective expression through shared learning and music-making. These are activities that bring musicians together to perform as a group, allowing them to share musical moments and build a unique connection through music. Besides the collaboration among music schools from these cities, the goal of the project is also the promotion of the accordion as a classical instrument and of choral singing, which will be showcased at the concert. Participating in this project will undoubtedly offer students a positive and motivating experience, important for their further musical journey.
The program will include popular and classical compositions, beautifully arranged for accordion orchestra, choir, soloists, wind and string instruments, drums, and bass guitars. The audience will have the opportunity to hear the piece “Let This Whole World”, in memory of the recently deceased Alfi Kabiljo, a Medley of Croatian Folk Songs (B. Radić), the unforgettable “The Seagull and I” by Oliver Dragojević (music by Z. Runjić), Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean”, and many more.
