Sports training in Poreč for excellent results

Sports teams who have trained in Poreč go on to win competitions and tournaments time and time again; one of the reasons for this is the traditional emphasis and care the tourism program in Poreč devotes to sport and recreation.

Outside the summer tourist season Poreč is an obligatory city on the list of places for professional athlete training programs, while during the summer amateur athletes are more common.  Many soccer clubs and national teams have trained on the grassy green spaces in Poreč.

Aside from outdoor pitches, Poreč has four sports centres.  The newest multi-purpose Žatika Sports Centre was built in 2008.  High profile sporting events like the 2009 Men’s World Handball Championships and the Davis Cup matches where national teams such as Chile, the USA and the Czech Republic have already been held at Žatika.

The Veli Jože Sports and Recreation Centre, the gymnasium of the Valamar Diamant, the Intersport Centre at Zelena Laguna and Žatika form a four-leaf clover of sports centres ideal for training individual and team sports:  tennis, soccer, handball, basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, table tennis, bocce, archery…

Handball and basketball courts in sports centres offer ideal conditions for training when the weather does not allow for playing on outdoor courts.  In the last few years Poreč has become a popular destination for professional and recreational cyclists and Poreč’s bike paths have been part races such as one of the world’s largest cycling races, the Giro d’Italia.

First and foremost athletes are guaranteed high quality training, excellent hotel accommodations and special services year-round.  Hotel chefs are able to prepare special menus for athletes according to recommendations given by sports doctors and trainers, while domestic sports teams are already used to sparring matches with professionals and national teams.

Many competitions and tournaments are held in Poreč, and years of experience coupled with constant investment in equipping sports facilities have resulted in Poreč being granted the title “City of Sports”.

For those who love adrenaline, exciting rally competitions are held in Poreč and its surrounding area and this spring Poreč’s double circular macadam trails were host to European rally stars as they competed amongst themselves.

But that’s not all, Poreč has also been host to the world’s best archers, and all those interested could watch the finals of the first World Cup in Archery on Poreč’s waterfront.

A combination of natural and climatic predispositions joined with the conditions Poreč offers its guests are sure to guarantee athletic success!
