Health services for tourists in Istrian Region’s public institutions Summer 2017
Pursuant to the contractual obligations with the HZZO (Croatian Health Insurance Fund), the Region’s health institutions provide services both for national and foreign tourists staying in the area of the Istrian Region. Should the need for immediate medical assistance be required, all tourists are entitled to health care under the same conditions as Croatian insured parties provided they have a valid European Health Insurance Card (EKZO). Domestic tourists access health care on the basis of a valid HZZO card.
In the case of emergency situations that might endanger life or severely harm the individual’s general health
-sudden abnormal breathing difficulties, choking with a foreign body, heart and breathing failure, loss of consciousness, sudden chest pain, convulsions, difficulty in speaking, weakness or constriction of the body, distortion of the face, injuries caused by traffic accidents and other sudden injuries (falls from height, prosthetic wounds), uncontrolled bleeding, electric shocks or after having been struck by lightening, hypothermia, heat stroke, drowning, drug poisoning

Infirmaries operate within the branch offices of Istrian Region’s Institute for Emergency Medicine, providing care for all emergency patients 24/7 as well as to non-urgent acute patients outside the working hours of a tourist infirmary or family doctor. In the case of acute illness and non life-threatening conditions
Conditions you would normally go to your doctor for, such as airway inflammation, viral infections, high fever, minor burns, minor ac- cidents, abdominal pain, back pain look for help from a doctor on the Istrian health centres’ website or in the tourist infirmaries.

Additional GPs, the so-called tourist infirmaries, are organised during the summer in the main buildings of the Istrian Health Centre’s branch offices. There patients will receive service on the basis of travel or private insurance, or the service should be paid.
*The paediatric and gynaecological infirmary in the General Hospital of Pula, Zagrebačka 30 is on duty on weekends and holidays.

THE PULA GENERAL HOSPITAL, Unified Emergency Hospital reception at Aldo Negri 6, Pula provides emergency services in the fields of: internal medicine, surgery, neurology, laboratory, radiological diagnostics and transfusion medicine.
THE PULA GENERAL HOSPITAL at Zagrebacka 30, Pula provides emergency services in the field of: infectology, psychiatry, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, gaediatrics and gynaecology. Hospital services DO NOT provide emergency examinations for: dermatovenerology, physical medicine, nuclear medicine, pathology and cytology.
